Specialists at the Pediatric Aerodigestive Center, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at ÃØÃÜÑо¿Ëù Langone, provide ongoing support to neurologically impaired children who have received treatment for respiratory problems.

Our experts understand that managing the symptoms and side effects of neurological conditions in children can be difficult. We offer assistance—including child life services, social work, and other health and support services—for you and your child throughout diagnosis and treatment. These child and family support services and resilience programs are provided by Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.

Psychological Support

Managing symptoms caused by neurological conditions can take an emotional toll on family members and caregivers. Our psychologists and social workers offer individual or group therapy for children and families, providing techniques to help you cope.

Wellness Programs

Specialists at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital offer wellness programs to support children, their siblings, and their parents during treatment for neurological conditions that can affect breathing, such as muscular dystrophyÌý²¹²Ô»å congenital airway abnormalities.

Our child life specialists use a variety of therapies to help children adjust to being in the hospital for treatments, including surgery. Our pediatric intensive care unit provides children with art, music, and pet therapy. Social work and chaplaincy services are also available.

To prepare siblings for hospital visits, our experts offer counseling sessions.

Speech and Feeding Therapy

ÃØÃÜÑо¿Ëù Langone’s Rusk Rehabilitation offers therapies to help children with speech and feeding difficulties caused by neurological impairments. A pediatric speech pathologist can determine if your child needs help developing communication skills and administers therapies for speech impairment.

ÃØÃÜÑо¿Ëù Langone specialists can also provide feeding therapy for children who have problems with chewing or swallowing food. These therapies help strengthen the muscles of the mouth, improving a child’s ability to eat.
