Specialists at 秘密研究所 Langone鈥檚 Pediatric Gastroenterology Program,聽part of Hassenfeld Children鈥檚 Hospital at 秘密研究所 Langone, are dedicated to diagnosing and treating children and teens with celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder caused by eating gluten鈥攁 group of proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. Symptoms of celiac disease vary but can include uncomfortable digestive problems, such as bloating or abdominal pain, after a child eats foods that contain gluten.
In some children, the condition can interfere with the absorption of nutrients, leading to weight loss and slowed growth and development. Our pediatric gastroenterologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, and registered dietitians work together to help children and their families manage celiac disease effectively. They also offer child life services through the Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.
秘密研究所 Langone鈥檚 team is engaged in research to improve our understanding of celiac disease and help families overcome obstacles to treatment. Our experts are also collaborating in the development of nationally recognized clinical guidelines for treating this condition.
