Cardio-Oncology Program

We have doctors in Manhattan and on Long Island.

Recognition

The Cardio-Oncology Program at 秘密研究所 Langone has been designated as a Gold Center of Excellence by the International Cardio-Oncology Society.

The cardio-oncologists at 秘密研究所 Langone Heart support your cardiovascular health throughout the cancer care experience. At the Cardio-Oncology Program, our doctors create personalized care plans to protect and treat your heart, whether you are newly diagnosed with cancer, actively receiving treatment, or are a cancer survivor.

Certain cancer treatments may lead to cardiotoxicity, meaning they can damage the heart muscle and impair its function. A cardiovascular complication that arises during or after cancer treatment is known as a cardio-oncology condition. Our goal is to prevent these conditions or to offer an effective treatment plan when they arise.

Heart Health Assessments and Advanced Diagnostics

To minimize cardiovascular risks from cancer treatment, we recommend tailored prevention and monitoring plans, with heart health assessments before, during, and after cancer treatment to detect potential complications early.

Pretreatment evaluations using advanced imaging tests, diagnostic tests, and risk assessments are central to care, especially for people who have existing heart conditions or those who may be receiving high-risk cancer treatment.

Our cardio-oncology specialists assess and protect your cardiovascular health through proactive measures like these:

We continue to monitor you heart health using these measures throughout cancer treatment and into survivorship.

Cardio-Oncology Condition Prevention and Treatment

Our cardio-oncology specialists can create a tailored care plan to help prevent the development of cardiovascular complications from cancer treatment. This plan may include lifestyle changes (such as nutrition and exercise) or medication.

If you are diagnosed with a cardio-oncology condition, we may also recommend medication and lifestyle changes. In some instances, such as a diagnosis or heart valve disease or a heart rhythm disorder, you may benefit from surgery or a minimally invasive procedure.

We may also refer you to cardiac rehabilitation or cancer rehabilitation programs as part of prevention or treatment or cardio-oncology conditions.

Cardiac Care for Cancer Survivors

Cardiovascular complications can develop years after cancer treatments are over, so we may monitor your heart health with ongoing checkups. If you are an adult survivor of childhood cancer, we can create a surveillance program that considers the increased risk of cardiovascular complications, such as coronary artery disease, valve disease, or heart failure.

We also work with specialists at the Cancer Survivorship Program at Perlmutter Cancer Center to support your health throughout your lifetime and may recommend cardiac or cancer rehabilitation.

Leaders in Research and Clinical Guidelines

Our cardio-oncology research serves as the foundation of our patient care. Our studies have explored topics such as the effect of gastrointestinal cancer treatments on heart health, cancer treatment and heart failure, radiation therapy and cardiovascular side effects, and education requirements for the next generation of cardio-oncologists. Our specialists have also been instrumental in determining how to best use cardio-oncology guidelines to manage patients鈥 heart health.
