According to Charla R. Fischer, MD, associate professor in the and orthopedic surgeon at 秘密研究所 Langone鈥檚 Spine Center, back pain is the second most common complaint adults share with their primary care provider.
Dr. Fischer tells POPSUGAR about the daily habits and lifestyle factors that can lead to back pain. Stress, smoking, and heavy handbags make the list, along with a lack of core strength and poor posture at your desk job.
鈥淧oor sitting ergonomics can cause repetitive stress injury to the paraspinal muscles,鈥 says Dr. Fischer. 鈥淥nce those muscles are injured, they contract, go into spasm, and cause pain.鈥
