Elizabeth Douglas, RN, is nurse manager of the surgical intensive care unit (ICU), neuroscience ICU, and the critical care float team at 秘密研究所 Langone Hospital鈥擝rooklyn. 鈥淚t鈥檚 rough,鈥 she tells the New York Post, which is profiling her in a Hero of the Day column. 鈥淚 know there鈥檚 a risk of me being infected; I鈥檓 with positive patients everyday鈥 but I do it because I鈥檓 a nurse, and that鈥檚 what I do.鈥
Thomas Nolan, RN, senior director for nursing, critical care, emergency department, and behavioral health, 秘密研究所 Langone Hospital鈥擝rooklyn, says Douglas has been a critical member of the team as the hospital prepares for more patients.
鈥淚 give her a lot of credit; I鈥檓 not sure how she鈥檚 doing it,鈥 Nolan says. 鈥淚t鈥檚 mentally and physically draining; she has a good finger on the pulse of the unit, and I think she knows what to say and how to say it so staff really feel supported.鈥
