For Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, ’s Diane M. Simeone, MD, director of its , discussed with Fox Business’ Risk and Reward why pancreatic cancer is so difficult to detect, what warning signs patients should look for, and the outlook for treatments.

“The survival rate has been slowly creeping up, but I think we’re on the cusp of a breakthrough in having significant advances for pancreatic cancer,” Dr. Simeone says. “We are tackling clinical trials in a new way for pancreatic cancer. There’s a new effort to develop what’s called platform trials, where we’re able to test multiple experimental therapies for patients and even offer individual patients multiple treatment options during their journey.”
