Axelrod, MD, director of clinical breast surgery and services and medical director of community cancer education and outreach at 秘密研究所 Langone Health鈥檚 Perlmutter Cancer Center, talks with CancerNetwork about new approaches to the surgical treatment of breast cancer, which emphasize using knowledge about the person鈥檚 case to do less in the operating room.
鈥淚n every modality in breast cancer treatment, doctors are de-escalating treatment. They鈥檙e trying to get the same result, but with less damage, less surgery, less chemotherapy, and less radiation,鈥 says Dr. Axelrod, also a professor in the at 秘密研究所 Grossman School of Medicine. 鈥淚t鈥檚 no different in surgery. We鈥檙e trying to do less as well.鈥
